Hind Agro Industries Ltd has signed a deal with the Narok Government to set up an abbatoir in the county for meat processing. Hind is an Indian exporter of buffalo meat. It currently exports its products to more than 20 countries among them, The United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Bahrain, Indonesia and Egypt.

Construction of the Sh1.02b slaughter house will commence early 2016 and when fully operational, it is expected to create 150 new jobs.

The deal was struck during the first investors’ conference in the County, held on December 3-4 at the Mara Serena.

Necessity

There are only a handful of professional abbatoirs in Narok, and the new slaughterhouse by Hind, which will have the capacity to slaughter up to 1,000 cattle daily,  is a welcome reprieve for farmers in the area.

There are an estimated 1.3million cattle population in Narok (beef and dairy), 750,000 goats and 1.4million sheep in the county, as per the latest data by the Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme (ASDSP).

ASDSP further notes that there are 156 ranches in the county, an indication that the new slaughterhouse will have enough supply.

Event

A total of Sh54.7b deals were signed during the conference, for projects in Agriculture, Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Energy and Tourism.

Of the total amount, Sh28.35billion will be invested in agricultural projects.
