Job title: Climate Smart Agriculture Technical Expert

Location: CABI locations in Africa or Asia, with hybrid working options

Climate change overview:

CABI is committed to increasing the use of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices, tools, and technologies among smallholder farmers. This will be delivered through improved training opportunities, bespoke communications campaigns, digital advisory and decision-support tools, technological innovation in plant health products, and entrepreneurship support for women and youth.

The Climate Smart Agriculture Technical Expert will work to develop and implement CSA focused activities globally. This will include supporting and leading CSA technology appraisal workshops, content development workshops, data gathering, on the ground support and training with agro-dealers and extension workers, and technical support to the wider project and programme teams.

The CSA Technical Expert will focus primarily on the implementation of CSA interventions at both the farm level, and with agribusinesses, and training of government-level officials, as required. The CSA Technical Expert must have strong experience of delivering CSA projects with low-income communities in Africa and/or Asia and support the uptake of CSA practices and technologies among risk-adverse and low-income stakeholders.

The CSA Technical Expert will work in the Climate Change Department and with other CABI colleagues around the world, to support technical implementation of CSA interventions, building on CABI’s core skills in pest and disease management, natural sciences research, development communications, and ecosystem management.

The Climate Smart Agriculture Technical Expert will also support the Climate Change Manager and regional teams to implement technical aspects of other CSA projects, inform research papers, and digital advisory services, and contribute to innovative CSA approaches in the projects and programmes (such as PlantwisePlus).
