snapstar talent logoThis position is for a key contact person with the company’s contracted farmers located in Nyeri, Kiambu, Muranga, Nakuru, Bomet and Kisii and will be responsible for fruit purchases, farmer training, implementing standards and other farmer and product development activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the company’s small-scale farm operations with livestock, gardens, avocados, and passion fruits.

• Demonstrate good agronomic and animal husbandry skills to ensure a commercially viable venture.

• Registering and contracting new organic farmers.

• Conducting internal inspections in the project sites.

• Play a leading role in establishing farmer groups where necessary.

• Actively source for hass avocados both conventional and organic.

• Play an active role in the maintenance of the company’s organic, GlobalGap and SMETA standards within the contracted smallholder farmers.

• Organize and plan for harvesting schedules, picking, purchasing of fruits and ensuring delivery of the fruits to the company’s packhouse.

• Recruitment, training and supervising a pool of skilled harvesters on a casual basis.

• Prepare reports and up-to-date accurate records that pertain to the fieldwork.

• Plan for farmers’ training on organic farming principles, better orchard management and certifications for both GlobalGap and organic standards.

Requirements:

  • Certificate and diploma in organic or general agriculture.
  • Experience: 1 to 3 years maximum.

Other competences.

• A good knowledge of fruit farming and working with smallholder farmers.

• A valid motorcycle license is a prerequisite and essential.

• Ability to speak in local dialect in the respective regions.

• Creativity and work results orientation.

• Ability to work without close supervision.

• Willingness to work in dynamic and rural settings.
