TIFA Poll: President Ruto Tops Charts in Forest Protection and Agriculture Policies

The survey on performance by the government indicates that the Kenya Kwanza administration has made necessary policies in the two areas attracting a score of 2.3 on a 3-point scale where โ€˜3โ€™ is very good while โ€˜1โ€™ is very bad.

A total of 3,009 respondents were interviewed during the survey held between November 25 to December 7, 2023.

They were asked to give the score on the governmentโ€™s performance during its first year in power on a scale from 1 to 3.

“It should be noted that no attempt was made to discover just what (if anything) how much regarding each of these policy areas respondents were aware of, let alone what their sources of information about such performance are,” the report states.

Ruto launched December a tree-planting campaign which targets 15 billion trees by 2032.

The tree restoration program is aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions, stopping and reversing deforestation, and restoring 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes through the African Landscape Restoration Initiative.

On November 13, Ruto led Kenyans in a national tree-growing exercise where over 15 million trees were planted across the country.

Combating pollution and contamination and investment in tourism also gained the top scores at 2.2 and 2.1 respectively.

Consequently, reducing debt, donor financial dependence and reducing corruption remain the key letdowns of the current administration at 1.8 and 1.6 respectively.

Job creation and lowering the cost of living are also ranked at the bottom
