It was a great relief to the manufacturers of Soko maize meal (Capwell Industries Limited said), after the government of Kiambu County through its Health department has allayed fears of aflatoxin in Soko maize flour.

According Dr Kamundia Ndung’u the Chief Officer of Health Services, the 43 samples that were submitted to the National Public Health Laboratories on November 18, were found to be in compliance with food standards

Dr. Ndung’u, ”The analysis results were received on November 22 and all the sampled batch number for Soko, Amaize as well as the dry maize were found to be in compliance with food standards as stipulated in the Food, Drugs and chemical substances act CAP 254 L.O.K.”

He further averred that random checks of food products are within its mandate and all public health officials are extra vigilant on suspected cases of aflatoxin.

Mr. Mahesh Chavda from Capwell Industries Limited said: “We continue to monitor and control food safety parameters at each stage right from the sourcing of raw materials, transportation, storage, milling, packing and dispatch. We also closely work with our distributors, wholesalers and supermarkets to ensure that our products are properly stored in their premises to ensure product safety until it is bought by the consumer.”
