Kenya and the Netherlands strengthen agricultural collaboration at the Kenya-Netherlands Trade Mission in Nairobi, focusing on food security, sustainability, and regulatory reforms.

The longstanding agricultural collaboration between Kenya and the Netherlands took center stage today as key stakeholders convened for the Kenya-Netherlands Trade Mission at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Nairobi. The high-level meeting, attended by government officials, industry leaders, and investors, reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to strengthening agricultural ties for sustainable growth and food security.

Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, underscored the importance of Kenya-Netherlands cooperation in addressing critical challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, and regulatory compliance.

He highlighted the role of the Agriculture Working Group (AWG) in enhancing bilateral trade by streamlining regulatory frameworks, improving phytosanitary and veterinary systems, and fostering capacity-building initiatives for Kenyan farmers.

“The government remains committed to improving coordination and enforcement of food safety requirements, supporting private sector self-regulation to meet market standards, and enhancing cooperation on sanitary and phytosanitary inspections. We are also working on implementing food safety risk management systems to guarantee product quality,” Dr. Ronoh stated.

He further emphasized the need for enhanced investments in compliance infrastructure and regulatory reforms to bolster trade between Kenya and the Netherlands. These measures, he noted, will not only increase Kenya’s agricultural exports but also create a conducive business environment for stakeholders from both nations.

The trade mission provided a valuable platform for discussions on innovative agricultural practices, technology transfer, and market access solutions. As Kenya continues to position itself as a key player in global agricultural trade, collaborations with countries like the Netherlands remain vital in driving resilience and sustainability in the sector.
