Nyeri County Boosts Poultry Farming With Chick Distribution Programme
The Nyeri County Government has distributed 4,545 one-month-old chicks to 12 self-help groups in Naromoru-Kiamathaga Ward, Kieni East, in an effort to strengthen poultry farming and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

The distribution was led by Deputy Governor Kinaniri Waroe under a county programme implemented through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
The initiative is expected to support organized farmer groups by increasing poultry production, creating income opportunities and improving food and nutrition security at the household level.
Speaking during the exercise, the county government said the programme reflects its commitment to supporting grassroots agricultural enterprises through investments that help farmers expand their businesses.
Poultry farming remains one of the fastest-growing agricultural enterprises in Kenya due to its relatively low start-up costs, quick returns and growing demand for eggs and chicken meat.
County officials said the chicks will help beneficiary groups increase production while generating additional income for their members.
The distribution exercise was attended by Naromoru-Kiamathaga Ward MCA Martin Matu, County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture James Wachihi, Chief Officer Patricia Wangui, Director of Livestock Production Jane Njuguna and other county officials.
Nyeri County has continued to invest in livestock and poultry programmes as part of wider efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, improve rural incomes and strengthen food security across the county.
