The County Government of Nyeri has continued to strengthen its commitment to results-driven service delivery with the cascading and signing of Performance Contracts across departments.

Following last week’s signing of the 2026/2027 Performance Contracts between the Governor and the County Executive Committee Members, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Aquaculture Development has today cascaded the contracts to the directorate level.

The exercise culminated in the signing of Performance Contracts between Chief Officer Ms Patricia Wangui and the Director Crop Resource Management, Director Livestock Production and Aquaculture Development, Director Veterinary Services, Principal Wambugu Agricultural Training Centre, Manager AMS Naromoru and County Project Coordinator for the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project.

The exercise was witnessed by CECM James Wachihi.

The signing marks the translation of the department’s strategic commitments into specific, measurable and accountable deliverables for each directorate and unit, with clear targets and expected results.

The exercise forms part of the county government’s results-based performance management framework. Through this framework, commitments made at the leadership level are cascaded into departmental objectives, programmes, activities and targets for implementation.

Clear targets and accountability for each directorate

The directors and unit heads will implement their respective mandates against SMART targets, supported by clear indicators, milestones and measurable outputs.

This creates a clear accountability chain while strengthening coordination, ownership, monitoring and timely implementation.

For the department, performance is ultimately about more than meeting targets. It is about turning commitments into practical interventions that make a difference in the lives and livelihoods of farmers, agribusinesses, including youths, and communities across Nyeri County.

From agricultural extension and value chain development to livestock improvement, aquaculture, food production and climate-smart agriculture, the department remains focused on delivering responsive and impactful services to its stakeholders.

Turning plans into results for farmers

Building on its achievements, the department is renewing its commitment to teamwork, accountability, prudent use of resources, continuous improvement and timely delivery of planned interventions.

The performance contract signing therefore represents a shared commitment by the department’s leadership and directorates to translate plans into action, action into measurable results and measurable results into better services, increased productivity and stronger livelihoods for the people of Nyeri County.

For farmers in Nyeri, the exercise signals a more structured approach to service delivery. Extension officers, veterinary teams and aquaculture officers will now work against clear targets that can be tracked and evaluated.

The move also aligns with broader county efforts to ensure that public resources are used efficiently and that agricultural programmes deliver tangible benefits at the farm level.
